Introduction

Located within walking distance to Sligo Town’s centre, Clayton Hotel Sligo offers a perfect base whether you are visiting for business or leisure. Clayton Hotel Sligo is only a 15-minute walk away from the shops, restaurants, and cafes, while all the local attractions are located a short drive away from the hotel.

Clayton Hotel Sligo features 162 spacious, modern, and bright guest bedrooms out of which 8 are accessible bedrooms suitable for wheelchair users. All guest bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. The en-suite bathrooms of the 8 accessible bedrooms all have a level entry shower with handrails fitted throughout ex.: shower, bath, and toilet.

The nearest railway station to Clayton Hotel Sligo is MacDiarmada Station, which is located 2.8 km or a 10-minute drive away from the hotel. The railway station can be reached by foot, car or taxi. The taxis are available at the station or can be called by our Reception team for pick up from the hotel.

Car Parking and Arrival

  • Clayton Hotel Sligo features extensive overground car parking surrounding the hotel, which is extended on a complimentary basis to all hotel guests including 4 clearly marked accessible car parking spaces located outside the hotel’s main entrance.
  • There are 5 steps leading to the main entrance with handrails on both sides. We have a purpose-built ramp, that is 1200mm wide and leads to the main entrance of the hotel. The main entrance door is automatic and 1300mm wide.
  • The car park surface is flat concrete, and the car park is well light at night.
  • We have a porter service available 24 hours a day to assist with your luggage.

Main Entrance / Reception / Welcome Area

  • Reception is on the ground floor and has level access throughout.
  • The floor surface throughout the lobby is marble and a short pile carpet.
  • The area is well lit with overhead lighting and free-standing lamps.
  • There is a choice of seating in the lobby area, which can be used as an alternative space for check-in.
  • A familiarisation tour is available on request.

Bedrooms

Clayton Hotel Sligo features different types of accessible guest bedrooms, of which some can accommodate for a personal assistant, carer, family member, or friend. These rooms provide specific facilities for guests with disabilities including:

  • Furniture can be easily removed or rearranged upon request.
  • In each room there is a transfer space of at least 500mm on the left side and 1500mm on the right side of the beds.
  • The height of the beds from the floor to the top of the mattress is 470mm
  • There is a 140mm space under the beds, allowing space for a hoist.
  • Rooms are bright and evenly lit. Overhead and wall lighting is controlled by switches. There are also bedside and table lamps in each room.
  • All guest bedrooms in the hotel entail the following; Guest bedroom doors are marked with raised numbers. Lighting allows for good colour contrast between the floor, walls, and doors. Guest bedrooms feature short pile carpet, non-feather bedding, flat-screen television with remote control, tea & coffee making facilities, and iron and ironing table.

Bathrooms, Shower-rooms, and Toilets (En-suite)

All of the accessible bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms providing specific facilities for guests with disabilities including:

  • Level entry showers.
  • The toilet seat height is 500mm.
  • The washbasin height is 800mm with clear space underneath.
  • Grab rails, horizontal and vertical, are fitted around the shower.
  • A horizontal grab rail is fitted alongside the bath in the rooms that have a bath.
  • Horizontal and vertical grab rails are fitted on either side of the toilet.
  • Lever taps are fitted on the washbasin and bath.
  • An emergency alarm pull cord.
  • Well-lit with overhead LED lights.
  • Good colour contrast between the doors, floor, and walls.
  • The flooring is non-slip tile.
  • All other bathrooms have the same lighting, lever taps, floor fittings, and good colour contrast as above, however, the shower is not separate and is over the bath.

Public Areas


Halls, Stairs, Landings, Corridors

  • All public areas, halls, stairs, landings, and lifts, are well lit using a combination of ceiling and wall lights (LED lighting is used in the lift). Corridors are slightly dimmer lit by wall lights.
  • Corridors are 1400mm wide and the floor covering is short pile carpet.
  • There are four lifts spread across the hotel. There is a mirror on the back of each lift, the sides are covered in sheet metal and the floor is non-slip laminate.
  • Each floor is marked by a large tactile number opposite the lift.

Lounges, Lobbies

  • The lounge area is situated on the ground floor with level entry from the reception and main entrance area.
  • The room has a mixture of seating with sofas and soft chairs with and without arms as well as some stools, together with low coffee tables.
  • Lighting is natural daylight and night levels are controlled by dimmer switches, with overhead and wall lighting used as well as free-standing lamps around the room.
  • The flooring is a short pile carpet, wood, and marble in both the lounge and the lobby.
  • Bar food and drink can be served in the lounge, just ask at the bar for menu details.
  • The nearest toilets are in reception and include an accessible toilet.

Restaurant, Bar & Bistro Areas

  • restaurant and bar are situated on the ground floor with level entry from the reception and main entrance area.
  • Double doors to this area are normally open.
  • Both the restaurant and bar have level access throughout. Tables in the restaurant are well spaced apart, with a clear height from the floor of 720mm, with a mixture of upright chairs with and without arms.
  • The bar area has a mixture of sofas, soft chairs, and upright chairs with high and low tables. Table service for drinks and food is offered.
  • Lighting is natural daylight and night levels are controlled by dimmer switches, with overhead and wall lighting used as well as table lamps around the room.
  • The flooring is mainly marble and wood with short pile carpet in small areas.
  • We do our best to cater to any dietary requirements; please contact us in advance with any specific requests. Where possible all our food produce is locally sourced.
  • The restaurant is table service for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is a self-service buffet; however, staff can assist on request.
  • Large print menus are available. All staff can assist by running through menus with you.
  • Crockery is colour contrasted with the table where possible.
  • The nearest toilets and accessible toilet are in the hotel lobby next to the restaurant.

Public Toilets

Public toilets can be found on the ground floor with level access from the main entrance, reception, lounge area, hotel restaurant, and bar & bistro.

We have a unisex accessible toilet, described below:

  • Entrance door 910mm wide and level entry into the toilet.
  • 960mm transfer space to the left of the ground floor toilet.
  • The toilet height is 490mm.
  • There is vertical rails on either side of both basin and toilet.
  • There is a horizontal rail on the sidewall adjacent to the toilet.
  • An emergency alarm pull cord.
  • The toilets are well lit with LED overhead lighting and there is a low-level light switch.
  • The flooring is non-slip tiles
  • There are lever taps on the sinks.
  • There is good colour contrast, tiles are terracotta, toilets & washbasins are white.
  • All other public toilets have the same lighting, flooring, lever taps as above.

Leisure Facilities

The leisure facilities comprising of 20-meter swimming pool, a full-service gym, and Essence SPA are located on the hotel’s ground floor, which can be accessed via the lift located across from the hotel’s reception desk.

  • The leisure facilities are level throughout.
  • All doors to these areas are 810mm wide, light, and easy to open.
  • The gym has a range of equipment: cycling machines, rowing machines, running machines, cross trainers, weights and bars, exercise mats.
  • All areas are well lit with LED lighting throughout.
  • Flooring in the leisure facilities is short pile fitted carpet tiles.
  • The nearest accessible toilet is by the reception.
  • All leisure facilities are open 7 days a week from 06.30 to 22.00.

 

Conference and Meeting Rooms

Our conference and meeting rooms are on the ground floor and can be accessed from the main entrance/reception area or from the back car park.

  • All doors are wide, light, and easy to open.
  • All rooms have natural lighting. Overhead lighting can be controlled by switches.
  • A mobile hearing loop system is available on request.
  • Upright chairs with or without arms are available. Tables have a clear space of 730mm from the floor.
  • The flooring is a short pile carpet.
  • The nearest public toilet with an accessible toilet is on the same floor by the reception.

Entertainment

We have a banqueting/dance floor area with a bar on the same floor, access is step-free. This can be accessed from the main entrance/reception area or from the back car park.

  • Lighting is even throughout. There is natural light from windows; both overhead and wall lighting is used which can be dimmed.
  • The flooring is both short pile carpet and marble
  • Chairs and seating can be arranged to suit.
  • The nearest public toilet with an accessible toilet is on the same floor and is located by the reception.

Additional Information


  • All of our staff receive regular training that includes disability awareness training.
  • We have a set of evacuation procedures – should you require assistance someone will come to your room and help you with evacuation either out of the building or to a refuge point.
  • A water bowl is available on request for assistance dogs and one can be supplied for bedrooms where necessary.
  • Clear signage is used throughout the hotel.
  • The nearest General Hospital with an A&E unit and walk-in HSE facility is approx. 1km away.  Please contact reception for further information.
  • Free Wi-Fi Internet access is available in all guest bedrooms and throughout the hotel.
