Lough Key Forest and Activity Park is a great day out for all the family. With so much to do and choose from, there is certainly something for everyone to enjoy. Whether it’s gentle leisurely activities that you enjoy or more energetic adventures, Lough Key Forest and Activity Park has it all.

One of their most popular activities is the Boda Borg. Teams of 5 enter the two-storey Boda Borg and have to progress through its 47 rooms using teamwork, ingenuity and using skills you may not even know you had! The teams need to completed activities, puzzles and fun tasks to finish the challenge.

There are beautiful walking and cycling trails one can enjoy. One in particular is Ireland’s only Tree Canopy walk. It is a truly remarkable experience to immerse yourself in the nature and through an audio-guided tour learn about how the landscape had changed and shaped from underground to up amongst the treetops.

The park itself is stepped in history and you can learn all about the history of the estate of Rockingham by strolling through the park.

For the more adventurous kind, Lough Key Forest Park offer numerous orienteering trails. For those who may not be aware, orienteering is an activity that combines running and walking with navigation. Participants use detailed maps to select routes and navigate through different terrain and visit control points in sequence. It’s a really great way to teach outdoor skills to all and you can sharpen your competitive streak when you get good at it too! Lough Key Forest Park offer Wheel-o which is wheelchair orienteering. This allows people with limited mobility to enjoy the sport as well.

There is an Adventure Play Kingdom that is an exciting play area suitable for a variety of ages and abilities. There’s towers, slides, climbing frames, roundabouts, swings, puzzles and much more.

If you still aren’t convinced that this is a great day out, they also offer many other activities at LoughKey such as Zipit, boat tours, hiring an electric bike and cycling the bike trails and lastly offer guided woodland Segway tours.

Admission prices vary depending on what type of activities you wish to patriciate in but all are reasonable and well worth it.

Their opening times are as follows:

  • January, February, November, December: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10am-5pm.

The centre will open outside of these hours for School Mid-Term Breaks and Pre-Booked Groups.

  • March, September, October: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10am – 6pm.

The centre will open outside of these hours for School Mid-Term Breaks and Pre-Booked Groups.

  • April, May, June, July, August: Monday to Sunday, 10am-6pm
  • July and August: Later Opening Saturday and Sunday, 10am – 7pm

The Lough Key Visitor Centre and Attractions will open at other times subject to pre booking!
